Emma Velez received a dual PhD in Philosophy and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in 2020. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Gender and Women's Studies at the Univeristy of Illinois-Urbana Champaign.


Biography:

Emma Velez received a dual PhD in Philosophy and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in 2020. She is currently an assistant professor of Gender and Women's Studies at the Univeristy of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. She specializes in Latinx feminisms, decolonial theory, critical theory, and continental philosophy. Engaging the work of U.S. Latinx thinkers, her research demonstrates the contributions that decolonial feminisms make to re-thinking questions of identity, cross-cultural communication, and ethicopolitical strategies for decolonization.
