Jiacheng Liu is a dual-title PhD candidate (ABD) in Mass Communications & Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Their research explores (a) the transnational circulation of trans and queer of color culture (e.g., Ballroom culture) in/across Asia, (b) the mutual shaping of digital media and queer politics in China, and (c) intersectionality and social movements in China and Asian diaspora.
Their previous works, which examine queer media production, gay digital dating and Chinese digital feminism, have appeared in Sexualities, Information, Communication & Society, Feminist Media Studies, International Journal of Communication, and Men and Masculinities.
Prior to this PhD, they worked at a gay internet company in Beijing and volunteered for a Guangzhou-based NGO focusing on elderly gay men. Born and raised in South China, they have an enduring passion for Cantonese food.
