Chen Fan

Professional Bio

Chen Fan (she/her/"tā") earned her bachelor’s degree from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China, and earned her research master’s degree in media studies from the University of Amsterdam. Her research investigates the intersections of gender, media, technologies and state power through three interrelated lenses: the strategic construction of women's representation in media within the state-market apparatus; new technologies and state power in shaping labor discourse and gender-labor relations; and the productive forces of affect and emotion in feminist movements, particularly examining how digital technologies are appropriated to create solidarity and resistance.

In her free time, she enjoys binge-watching thrillers with friends and reading novels, and she has an adorable cat named Cheese.
