Professional Bio
Suleyman is a fourth-year dual-title Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Literature and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, with a graduate minor in English. Originally from Turkey, his research focuses on comparative analysis of Turkish literature, gender and sexuality studies in literature and culture, and queer and gothic studies. In 2022, he became the Assistant Editor of Women, Gender, and Families of Color (WGFC). He is interested in queer readings of the gothic as an international and global phenomenon. His research particularly revolves around the global circulation of gothic narratives in relation to local identities, cultures, nations and how gothic's queerness is reshaped by them. In his dissertation project, he traces the transnational and transmedia evolution of the vampire figure within the Turkish context, focusing on the biopolitical readings of the blood metaphor.
